Check your medical records. Despite having an incredibly abusive childhood, after answering the doctors questions regarding medical history with a short - “we’re not close and I don’t speak with my mother often” my medical records now say “patient does not relate to her family of origin” as if I’m the one who has minor complaints that I won’t resolve with them! Rather than the person who’d lock us in rooms and beat us and restrict our food and contact with others, books, radio, and communication wasn’t best avoided, and friends and family didn’t allow this to happen for years and tell us our “parents loved us in their own way” and “we’re doing the best they could” rather than intervene.

Just so you know, this is a huge societal lie, so that people don’t have to take action, support social safety programs, or have difficult conversations with other adults that may assault them instead of their children.
