Did you ever read or watch the story of Dirty John? A movie was made starring Connie Britton. It’s not high art, but it’s the story of a family of a woman who’s mom was similar to yours and sister and she are both abused; one ends up dead. The mom’s reaction is strikingly similar to yours - she thinks about God’s ‘plans for women.’ There’s an excellent book, called Mother Hunger by Kelly McDaniel, that not only discusses this true story as a case study, but also the unfortunate situation when a mother hasn’t been able to do a proper job with nurturing and protecting her children, specifically daughters. It may be useful (and helpful) to you & your sister.

Her belief system and life situations didn’t allow her to even protect herself, and sadly, that has implications for future generations who would face abusive partners.

Wishes she had a gong, like on The Gong Show, but for stupid ideas (especially her own). Please don’t ask me what I think if you don’t want to know.
