I didn’t read the original article that sparked this discussion, but the reason it’s confusing is because men aren’t attracted to women that initiate. It doesn’t work out for women. In a straight relationship, if the man is not interested enough to risk rejection by asking for a date/expressing interest, any chance of a functional partnership is DOA. The guy just thinks “She wants me. Why would I bother investing my time and energy?” and without the chase it’s not going to spark for either of them.
