I never understood/always hated the expectation that the company felt that you owed them your free time too. I’ve had multiple employers plan “fun” outings like minor league baseball games, complete with a bus that picks everyone up AFTER WORK (so you can’t even leave early) to sit in hard seats at the world most boring, endless game with the people who you sit in meetings (also endless and boring) all day. And your career suffers if you don’t participate in the mandatory “fun!” It’s not like you can relax with your boss and sexual harassing Pete from the mailroom hanging around. Do employers not know that people want to go home? Don’t co-workers have their own friends and family? Don’t they watch the clock and their task and time their work schedule so they can GTFO and do what they actually want to do?
