Look, a pretty white lady gets murdered, and the nation is horrified. A little blond girl is missing and we go out to look. Indigenous people and POC are not given the same air time or resources - a lot of people, my own parents, told me that only Blonde children are kidnapped and when I told them that wasn’t true they said “That’s not true! Haven’t you ever watched the news? Have you ever seen anything else?”
People EXPECT the disenfranchised to die, to be exploited, to suffer. It is NEWS when billionaires get it. People watching weren’t watching out of empathy or sympathy. They are watching like they watch NASCAR, or a trapeze act. They were hoping for the crash. It was schadenfreude.
People aren’t always as honest as this author. They’re going to couch their feelings in “of course it’s awful, but…” and then continue on about how I’ll-conceived, expensive, immoral, the loss of life, particularly for the minor, how sociopathic billionaires are, hate the game not the players, and so forth.
The average wage slave knows that the world has suffered and will continue to suffer because if you have enough money, you can just put on your crampons and hike up our backs. Or heads. Or stomachs. Anywhere they want. Our governments will collude to make it easier for them and harder for us. In fact, we are forced to do the work of rescuing them when they exhaust themselves from all their stomping grounds.
