My husband wears his perma-stained work clothes (they’re stained fresh from the wash) and work boots 7 days a week.

He does remind me of my grandfather, and not in a good way. It’s lazy, unsexy, and I wish he’d make an effort. Am I supposed to be attracted to someone who can’t be bothered? I get that it’s his choice, and he’s choosing to stay in his comfort zone, but, I look at him and see my jerk of a grandfather, with his duct tape and rustoleum, never bothered to really put an effort or dime into anything but his dubious priorities, and…eww.

It’s what a sloppy old lady represents to him, bc he cannot unsee it.

He was ungracious, yes, but it’s a situation where he graduates into worrying that people are going to think he’s traveling with his mother, which is a whole new level of ick if you try to hold his hand (not knowing he’s thinking this)!
