Non-romantic partnerships that are more egalitarian (business, creative, sports) tend to be more short-term and/or project based. For some reason, and it seems to be gendered, it’s harder for some people (I’m not saying men) to understand that women don’t like being bossed around/second seat any more than they do, and as they increasingly get financial independence, they’re not going to get stuck in the passenger seat anymore, at the mercy of some other driver who never surrenders the wheel, takes us where we want to go without pouting or acting like it’s stupid, or makes needed rest stops without a song and dance.
That is why the divorce rate is going up. It’s finally feasible for many.
