People are constantly saying they want the government out of healthcare, stupidly not understanding that the government is so far into healthcare that they’re holding the door open to lobbyists who write laws and checks to the very people making laws to not negotiate drug prices, cap treatment rates, or make a medical education sane, accessible or affordable for the non-rich.
And NO, your doctor doesn’t give a shit. There are hardly any “private practices” any more with doctors who want to “help people.” They are rewarded by the number of patients they see, tests ordered, Press Ganey satisfaction surveys, and Quality Metrics based on claims data/costs/“outcomes” (did the patient die/return for care/increase usage and cost the insurance company more money) - for which the hospital has to either cut a check or gets a bonus - and next year’s contracting rates are decided upon that performance. The patient, doctor, and hospital itself are all scored, much like a credit score, and the weighted score comprises Quality Metrics and rates.
Your denied authorization was designed to affect your behavior: your lackluster doctor could resubmit with stronger language, but you’re hurting his score- he may have a number of complex cases or he might just suck. I try to find out where there’s a practice where the doctor looks like you or sees more people who do.
