“Who pays?” Is not about who actually pays. It is an opening move/choice that hugely establishes the dynamics of the relationship. What it means to the parties involved is specific to them, but if you’re inviting someone to join you in an activity that you want them to be your guest for, why on earth would you want them to pay? That’s effed up.
